5 Winter Babies

The Much Awaited Fall Litter

UPDATE: All of these babies have found their homes. Stay tuned for our next available litters!

We finally have our dwarf babies! 

They have been held every day since the day they were born. They are very playful and will make great pets! Rats are smart, clean, playful, and they'll never bite.

Dwarf rats are $20, and dumbos are $10.

HOME! Coconut is reserved for Breanna! Coconut is the best little guy (although "little" is maybe the wrong adjective because he's such a chunker). He's very squishy and cuddly and patient. He was born with one eye smaller than the other, so he always looks like he's slightly winking (Winky is actually his nickname). We don't know if he has vision or not in that eye, but it doesn't affect his abilities or behaviors whatsoever. He'll make a great pet.

This is the litter we've been working on for a long time because approximately half of the babies will be dwarf! We've also got some velveteen, harley, and one harvel (which is both velveteen and harley). Two of the babies are marten (one of them a blue marten), and all of them dumbo-eared. We won't know which babies are dwarf for certain until they're about 4 weeks old, so we're holding off on individual pictures until then. But here is a sneak peek!

UPDATE: All of these babies have gone to their new homes. We are a small rattery with only a handful of litters every year, so stay tuned for our next litter this coming Fall.

The Chubbiest Litter Ever

These babies have been handled constantly from the hour they were born and are so friendly and playful. They will make excellent pets. Rats are naturally social, so they do best in groups of two or more. If you already have a rat or two at home, a new baby rat will be welcomed into your group.

Little Nadia is free to a good home. She is VERY sweet and she has some special needs. She is tiny (she was born tiny, too), but she was the first to open her eyes. Her eyes look wet and she doesn't ever blink her eyes, which sometimes causes a reddish build-up on her eyelids that we gently wipe off with warm water. She closes her eyes when she's sleeping or when you blow on her. She doesn't have the typical behavior of blind rats, but we do question her vision (rats have poor vision to begin with, so it's hard to tell). She jumps around and plays with her litter mates, and seems to eat and drink normally, too. We just don't know what the future holds for her.

UPDATE: Our little Nadia is doing SOOO much better. Her eyes are looking clear and bright. She is looking so healthy that I mistook her for her brother today. She has put on lots of weight and loves her treats. She's still little, but she's catching up. I think her future prospects are looking good.

UPDATE AGAIN (2/22/22): Nadia is developing normally! We no longer question her vision; it's normal. She climbs, she jumps, she plays, she grooms herself, she greets us at the cage door, she takes treats. What is abnormal about her is that she's incredibly friendly, brave, and smaller than average. She is so spoiled, though, that her belly is rapidly expanding! This girl is a bottomless pit when it comes to treats!
